Doubleheader Game 2- Mariners

Foo. I was so hoping that Tim Wakefield would have a great game and log another win for the Sox and himself. As it was, he pitched fairly well, but Felix Hernandez pitched much better. Wake went 5.2 innings allowing 8 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, no walks and 2 strikeouts. Atchison, Delcarmen and Doubront finished the game without any more Mariners scoring. Hernandez went 7.1 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 walk and 2 runs while striking out 9 Red Sox.

Adrian Beltre was ejected from the game for arguing strikes and balls. Francona followed him shortly afterwards for sticking up for one of his players. Sometimes ejections can fire up a team, but not so today. Hernandez and League stifled the Red Sox batters. Drew hit a solo home run, but other than that, they could only manage 3 scattered, lonely hits. Big Papi lined out to deep left with 2 men on and 2 outs to end the 8th inning. Mike Lowell hit a pinch single to start off the 9th inning, but was followed by Nava grounding into a double play.

The Angels beat the Rays and the Jays beat the Yankees, so the Red Sox are now 5.5 GB both of them, as they remained tied for 1st place in the AL East.
